Jura: petanque and drought

In July 2022, Victoria, recently arrived from Ukraine, and Simon, returning from a cycling trip, set off to explore the depths of the Jura. On the program: mountains, valleys, encounters, crafts and local sports practices, for an adventure rich in discoveries, faithful to the spirit of Portraits 2 Passages!

A departure under a bright sun for Victoria (arrival from Ukraine to settle temporarily in France) and Simon (freshly returned from his bike trip)! This edition will take them to the depths of the Jura to discover mountains, valleys and terroirs. Great encounters, discoveries of local crafts and very local sports practices from home for Victoria: in short, everything we like to show you in Portraits 2 Passages!

The two pairs left Dijon at 8 am on July 21 and returned on July 23 in the evening, only by hitchhiking.

La Natale

Louis Pasteur lived in three houses in Jura. Find them all!

Louis Pasteur was born in Dôle in December 1822. In 1827, his family left Dole for Marnoz. It was finally in 1830 that the family moved into a new house in Arbois.

The leper

The water arrives there from Mont Roland. This resurgence, in the middle of the city, is an underground wash house. Find this place.

This underground wash house is the “Leper fountain” or the “Grande Fontaine”. How do I get there? You will have to go to 77 rue Pasteur in Dôle, take the stairs and the hidden underground. You'll see, it's magnificent!

This museum pays tribute to the industrial heritage of Jura. Initially linked to wood production, it is now the turn of plastic to take over. What is the main theme of this museum?

The Toy Museum is located in Moirans-en-Montagne. He is dedicated to the history of the Jura toy industry, over 5,000 years of history.

The cheesemonger

The mountain lady

This woodpecker is named after a bird. It offers a breathtaking view of the lakes. Head over to this spot to take in the view.

Eagle Peak (39150 La Chaux-du-Dombief, France). The Pic de l'Aigle is a summit in the Jura mountains. It culminates at 998m above sea level and dominates the valley of the 4 lakes. On a clear day, you can even see Mont Blanc!

There is also Merona, which is one of the 100 smallest municipalities in France in terms of its number of inhabitants (7). It is the highest town in Jura in this ranking !

The pebble

It is calcareous and has a diamond shape (or almost). She chose to become her star in the middle of a circus.

Pierre Enon in the middle of the Cirque de Vogna. The Vogna Circus is located near Arinthod. It was dug by a glacier that covered the whole of Jura during the glaciation several thousand years ago. On the eastern edge of the circus is a block of stone, in the shape of a diamond. This unusual place is worth a look!
